Blank Canvas to Fruit & Flowers | Richmond

We transformed this rather dull, open space into a private recluse with fruit trees, scented lavender, native shrubs, espalier camellias and our favourite flowers.

  • This garden began as a plain square lawn area with an unattractive aged concrete path and little visual interest. We removed the grass and excavated the existing concrete path to allow the space to be completely redesigned.

We worked the soil and improved it using manure, compost and soil conditioners to create ideal conditions for planting fruit trees and a mix of favourite flowering plants.

Native shrubs were planted to provide natural privacy screening and attract birds to the garden, and we established espalier camellia plants for fenceline screening. We installed Weed Gunnel for effective weed suppression while still allowing the soil to remain healthy and breathable.

We built a timber deck with inbuilt lemon tree, perfect for relaxing around the new firepit. Reclaimed stone collected over time was used to create informal cottage style garden borders, adding character while making use of existing materials.

An irrigation system was also installed to support healthy establishment and make the garden easy to maintain.
